I don't know if Proven Winners made a mistake on the zone for the Fuchsia variety or not. I just listed it in the database the way they had it.

You could email them as ask about it. If you do, post what they said.

In my experience the PW hardiness claims are somewhat random. Both Rockin Purple and Fuchsia are quite tender. To be safe anything below 32 degrees F is not safe - even higher for the newly planted and those in containers.

I brought into the sunroom for overwintering fun my containers of Salvia oxyphora and Royal Bumble. They're loving the warm room temperature.

I've been starting seeds this month. The Salvia cardiophylla seedlings have their first leaves now.



Salvia penstemonoides is showing some strong seedlings.

The Salvia penstemonoides died due to damping off. I started another set of seeds going yesterday.

Interestingly, Salvia cardiophylla survived under the same growing conditions and look strong.

Salvia penstemonoides is very prone to soil borne diseases when small. It is pretty tough when mature and quite fragile in its youth.

I have a new set of Salvia penstemonoides germinated now. I will have to thin out the patch soon.

I'm having better luck with Salvia penstemonoides with this second sowing. First leaves are forming nicely.



Salvia cardiophylla is still doing well.



I use a shop light attached to a timer to provide supplemental light for the seedlings.

I bought summer jewel seed variety this year and most of them are growing. Seems like an easy salvia to grow from seed.

The hummingbirds will love their flowers, Eric!

Right now in pots i have a rockin fuschia, rockin purple, black and blue, pink flowered guarantica, mystic spires, mysty, black and bloom, and rockin playing the blues. I have summer jewel salvias white, lavender, and pink so far. I am growing a red from seeds. The black and blue, pink, and mystic spires are all growing large in three gallon pots.
