You know it will be a hot day, when by 8:30 it's already 85f. Still I've work to get done in the yard.
I cut in another 30' of the continued border bed along the fence in the back yard. I also added a few of the potted Daylily's to whittle down the pot ghetto that my DW despises. Well these were her potted CVs but beside the point I guess.
Of them the following were planted. Little Fat Dazzler, Cabbage Flower, Happy Returns, Lord Cornwallis, Hot Seceret, Silom's Doodle Bug and June Bug. I also threw one of mine in the mix when planting Colbalt Rings. 20' feet remains and she ask what I was planting in it? I said Daylily's of course. Her response "Daylily's are taking over". I chuckled and said what else. *laughing loudly
I did set out a Fig tree that she wanted. I didn't mind, as I love a fresh fig.
Had a new face show itself this morning. It is a CV acquired in the spring.
'Majorca Isle'
During a recent family vacation in the Pigeon Forge area of the Great Smokey Mountains, I took a few photos and thought I would share.
This Laurel was growing out of a support log that a water trough was built on. The trough supplied water to the still working Mingus grist mill just outside of Cherokee, NC.
The photo below is of the trickling rock falls called 'The Place of a Thousand Drips' on the Roaring Fork Motor Trail in Gatlinburg, TN. Pictures never do it justice.
These are from the Old Mill area.
More photos to come, after I go thru them...
I took these pictures early last month with intentions of adding them here in my blog. They are of the Wooten Memorial Garden that my Daylily club (Choctawhatchee Daylily Society) planted and maintains through out the year.
It is located in the little railroad town of Defuniak Springs, FL where I live. I help, to maintain it a couple months of the year by weeding, and ensuring the sprinkler system is working and also deadheading, a lot of deadheading.
I know that there is a diagram of the layout, but I haven't ask for a copy so the CVs will go unnamed.
I've had a heck of a time with rust on a few of my cultivars this year. This probably due to my watering schedule and the landscape irrigation using overhead sprinklers. Well I say that, but probably it is more due to my lazy spraying methods this year. My DW and I are in some busy times as the horses keep us at the barn a lot and my still being full time employed. Even with the sun setting later, there just never seems to be enough of it.
So, more about the rust and my treatment. In past I have used bayer 3 in 1 systemic treatment and Daconil as my contact fungicide. With a Fertilome neem oil based fungicide to change it up and was getting good results until this year.
I recently brought this up at our club meeting, and upon the suggestion of Randy Fleming of Dragons Mead Daylily Garden, I have incorporated a couple of new products. These are on the lower end of expensive, Bonide Mancozeb and Honor Guard which the active ingredient is Propiconazole 14.3%. I have used these every 10-14 days switching products each treatment. So far I have seen some improvements. Randy had also recommended another that I have not tried yet called Cleary 3336.
Randy uses things on the higher end of expensive, but he is in the business and we all know, rust equals not being able to pass certification for shipping. He uses Cabrio, Bravo-Tilt and Abound. His personal schedule is to rotate spraying with one of these three products every week for three weeks in March along with a product called Nickel Plus. The nickel plus is high nitrogen and used extensively in the pecan industry. Basicly the nitrogen gives the plant a kick and gets the foliage to growing adding new growth, and since rust tends to be in the older leaves of the fans, the new growth keeps them healthier as it was explaineed by Randy.
Yesterday I put abou 2 dozen seed in the seedling bed after soaking them for a week in hydrogen peroxide and water.
List the crosses here will help me if the tree rat steal my makers.

Here are some of my favorite shots from the garden this year.
I am growing a few more of the Oriental Lilies this year. Blooming and becoming a favorite is thi big white one shown below. My DW said she wants more of these. It is a huge bloom measuring in at a full 12" across. I can't seem to find the bag tag right now. So it is currently in an NOID status.
Post to show a couple of my 2015 seedlings.
These are the FFEO. I am posting parents and their siblings.
Don't ask why I crossed these, Probably because the were next to each other and blooming at the same time.
