T tuberosum is mashua and I actually have it bought from Strictly Medicinal but it's dormant right now and not making foliage. The tuber is edible. I also have blue nasturtium seeds and seeds for a few other exotic climbing nasturtium species but they have proven difficult to germinate. But I keep trying anyway! https://strictlymedicinalseeds...

However my Canary climber is starting its climb! This is about the point I got to with one over the summer when the cabbage white butterflies ate it.

Here is the mashua. You can see the tuber. The issue is that most of these exotic climbing nasturtium are winter bloomers so I'm unsure how to deal with them in my NY climate. Right now I have this indoors while I figure it out.

I also tried growing this one from tubers and seeds without success
Flame Nasturtium (Tropaeolum speciosum)

And my mystery plant looks fabulous after giving it fertilizer! It doesn't look like much but this is the most it's grown in 9 months!

ShawnSteve said:Isn't there a somewhat similar Tropaeolum of the species tuberosum, too ?
(I'd sort of thought, were closely related, to one another.) Although perhaps seeds of which, are slightly more of a difficult one to locate...

It's actually easier to find tubers than seeds of this species. They are often sent out in the fall as it's a winter blooming plant. I bought mine from Strictly Medicinals and then I left it outside too long so it lost it's foliage and now I have it inside. Out of stock now because it's out of season.

I'd just not looked for them, in quite a number of years, Lisa. Good luck with getting it started growing once again.

A second seed of J.M.G. has just sprouted.

While I still need to pot up so many others, including, even later sown 'Spencer' type Sweet Peas, too. (I'd taken bolt cutters, to more easily remove a tree root,) that was exactly right in the way, along a fence, of where I'd planned to transplant those.

It surely helped out, with saving stress on my back, from requiring the use of a pick axe instead, to much more so ever easily accomplish that !

nature keeps amazing me
I must admit I'm a lazy gardener when it comes to seeds. the seeds I received from Joseph were really well packaged! again than you! I nicked most of them but not all. then wrapped them in a warm wet paper towel over night. the ones that were nicked had started to come out. I planted all the seeds but the un nicked ones went in the back of the row. They came up first! the seeds were planted in a narrow bed along the driveway. they grew up the arbor and then went inside the lattice on the porch and stayed in bloom all day. I got to see them when I got home from work. this was so nice because I leave for work so early its still dark out and I never would've gotten to see them. ordered more seeds for this summer.

I think I may have previouly first ordered from Seed Needs, quite a number of years ago !
I'm so glad to see, & know that you've already been sent those seeds, & have recieved them.
(I ought to be getting some soon too, which were so kindly offered, shared , & sent to me from Lisa.)

I'm quite grateful for that, so we'll be soon growing those "Canary Creeper" vines. While this will also be the very first year, I'll have sown that 'Phoenix' variety, also.

I just might try, that purple flowered vine, of Cobaea, & sow a bit early at that, too. (Haven't quite made up my mind, as to just which source to order from.) As much is often the case, with all those J.M.G. seeds.

While I think Seeds n Such, just may offer those 'Fuji' mix, type. For not bad of a price, including the shipping. Especially for those who really enjoy that type of "white line" blooms.

Edit, to add, the larger sized packets were all sold out, of Fuji mix,, though still see smaller pkt., While dark purple Cathedral Bells, (in both, pkt. sizes are all "Sold Out, at Seeds n Such..)

The Tropaeolum peregrinum seeds look quite healthy. I can't wait to see how they perform.

Like about as tall as some of my Sweet Peas are now, as those were the Only ones I had totally forgotten about, to put back outdoors during yesterday !
I'm uncertain if self pollinates, or requires crossing, with a secondary plant, or not.
Anyone know the answer?

Edit, to add clarification. I'm asking the question about Tropaeolum "Canary Creeper".
(I'm already familiar enough with Sweet Peas, though sure got etiolated, rapidly !)

I'm not sure about pollination. I've never had one grow big enough to make any flowers yet but I'm hoping this one will!

My ipomoea sagittata seeds arrived today so I'm soaking a few. This is supposed to be a perennial species.

The seeds look exactly like the ones pictured in the database here with a bit of fuzz on them. Saltmarsh Morning Glory (Ipomoea sagittata)

One particular thing I'd not known about it, is that "Canary Creeper" is actually a frost tender perennial, in Zones 9, & 10.
Which means I just may need to site it, where it gets some shade, from the direct mid day sun light, especially during the Summer Season.
I've seen enormous sized Nasturtium growing during cooler season of Autumn, around here, (though without a single bloom, on any of them.)

The foliage looked great, although I'd suspect the soil was much too rich, (or possibly high in Nitrogen,) & therefore were no blooms.
I'd rather suspect is a "cool season" grower, similar to most other Nasturtiums.
While I've noticed 'Empress of India', is bit more heat tolerant, among those.

(I may also have to look around, to read up more about that 'Phoenix', as the leaves may appear to be somewhat different.)

I grew Phoenix in a pot and it didn't grow as nicely as the plants I had directly in the ground. I'm a huge nasturtium fan.
