Speaking of violets, I just purchased one, my first one in many years. It's an optimal a, and didn't have the cultivar Neman on it, so I will go online to see what it is. A very pretty bi color, royal purple with white in the center of the blooms. I will try to post a pic soon.

Thanks! I found it at Wal Mart. It was very dry. Several of the other AVs had succumbed to no water. I did water it with water I sat out for awhile, to let the chlorine dissipate. The water was room temp, and I watered from the bottom. It's sitting in my kitchen window above my sink. A North window, like they like.

Here is the first leaf of Q0751.

Thumb of 2021-01-09/Gerris2/221b2e

It sure doesn't look like its parent who had darker green variegated leaves. Maybe later leaves will show the traits of the parents.

Ronnie, that Streptocarpus has my eyes popping out. How fussy are they? I have passed up on these in the past because I didn't want to start on another Gesneriad. I tried a few and I am not that good at them. Some really need good humidity.
Lynda, that AV looks great. Nice color and healthy looking!
I used to have a few AV's but they succumbed from one thing or another over the years. I really liked some of them but I decided not to replace them except for this little miniature.

Joseph, your seedlings are looking very healthy. What is your light source?

Although I find winter a nice break from gardening, I always get a little plant starved too. So I always go on some kind of splurge. Looking at these Gesneriads made me look back to try to find pictures of my old AV's. Instead I came across my short lived orchid phase which was a fail.

Loretta, I don't find the strep to be too fussy. I have them in the kitchen in an east window so they get morning sun and then bright light the rest of the day. Mine are in clay pots and dry out quickly but are right next to the sink so I can water them often.
I have three AVs under a light that are in full bloom. I'll try and get a pic tomorrow.

I'm really enjoying all the photos. I have a quick question. This is the first time I've grown ipomoea from seeds. One variety has jumped up and gone up to almost the top of my trellis. What do you do when it reaches the top and is still growing fast? Do you extend the trellis with strings or something else? Do you try to train it back down the middle of the trellis? I have 2 other varieties that are still only 3 inches high with just one set of real leaves. I guess the rarer types are slower growers? I'm hoping they make it.

I use a 60 or 100 watt equivalent LED bulb in a shop light. Nothing fancy.

You can snip the tip which will make the plant make secondary vines. Alternatively you can guide the leading end back down the trellis manually.

Karen, I just wind mine down once they reach the top.
