One of my favorite sub-shrubs is this Felicia amoena. The color of the flowers is unique: kind of a flat periwinkle purple. It is eye-catching. It is also a color that can be hard to blend with other colors, so aim for contrast. The yellow disc gives one an obvious direction.

Here, it is a perennial which can live for years when in the perfect spot. It is grown as an annual everywhere else. It naturally grows in sandy sites and appreciates good drainage. The native climate is like coastal California with winter rain. Provided regular watering it will flower much of the year, but will poop out in summer if allowed to dry. They are not particularly drought tolerant.

A great plant for hanging over the side of a planter or a raised bed, it can be mixed with other things as long as their roots are not too pushy.

Love those! Now I have to figure out some place to put some on campus. That's a great use for it.

I didn't caption this one so not sure where I took the photo, probably at a local nursery. They remind me of sea anemones.

Rainy day so popping around the forums and found this thread. Common here but so perfect, don't forget Phygelius capensis, Cape Fuchsia. It survives when I have summers touching 114° and both the gophers and voles leave it alone. I chop it back after spring bloom. As the hummers love it - I'll do one or two plants, then wait to prune another till the first bunch is ready to bloom again.

Remember, it is dangerous to the environment and ILLEGAL in MANY states (CA is one) to mail plants/bulbs/cuttings in. Let’s all practice Do No Harm while we walk this earth and find other ways to connect to one another through gardening.
