The category "bulbs". Is this photos of bulbs, or flowers/plants that grow from bulbs?
e.g. I have a tulip photo. Does that go in "bulbs", or into "Other annuals and perennials"?
Many thanks. Thumbs up

It's for plants that grow from bulbs. Your tulip photo belongs in this category.

Could go in tropical or foliage, or container if in a container. Anything could go in annuals/perennials, but I am personally trying to avoid putting much there. That's so broad, it's going to be totally apples-to-oranges, trying to vote that category.

I wish we had fewer categories...daylilies, lilies, iris, and dahlias all fall into the bulb/tuber category...for some of us dahlias could be an annual...orchids could be tropical, trees could be foliage, hibiscus could be tropical. That makes it confusing for some as to where their photo fits best. I had quite a few dahlia photos I wanted to enter and didn't want to split them into two categories Shrug!
I would love one year to see just a gardening photo contest, maybe 10 entries per person of their choosing. The top five votes get entered into best of show.

If I am not mistaken, orchids were in the tropical category up until recently. Now they have their own.
I find the contest to be organized pretty darn well. More entries in less categories is not the answer I feel. This is exactly what you should expect form this type of contest. You can in no way predict what image will garner more votes then any other image. The voting is kind of like a crap shoot. No rhyme or reason to it, just people voting for images that they like.
There is no magical formula to predict what image will win.
You just submit what you think are your best images and forget about it. If you win, you win. There is nothing wrong with losing, it is about trying and participating. In fact my attitude is that everything I submit is going to lose. I am never disappointed with the results. "I know what is a good image"!!!! I just leave it as that.

There are bulb purists, objecting to the inclusion of corms, tubers, and rhizomes under that label. I'm in another camp that considers all of those as types of bulbs.

Not saying this to have that debate, but to say that whatever your personal preference, know that people from both camps will be voting according to their personal preferences.

Oh I do it for fun, hope I win a nice prize but never expect to! That's why I said it would be nice to just have a "Garden themed contest" with no categories just garden-related photos and people can vote for what they like!
