Kat, your mint has blessed my neighbor. I gave her a healthy rooted piece to grow. The mint is doing well and thanks again!

Good! It is vigorous here, likes abuse with its freedom. Rolling on the floor laughing Did she, was she able to smell it?
So many roads to take, choices to make, and laughs to share!

Yes. But I can't. My doctor thinks I've had covid but didn't know.

The first of my herbs has sprouted! Thyme was the fastest, followed by a few others later in the day. My newest seeds are definitely coming up faster than the older ones (though that's why I planted multiple seeds per container (something I never do). Now to find more containers for when I split them...

Last year my herbs took forever so I decided to start them earlier this year.

@Jimard8, sweet little rosemaries! I buy dried nettle for tea from my local herb store but I've never grown it. Do you use it fresh?

The freezing storms, plus consistent below-freezing nights for months, have set back our season a bit, but temps are now rising. I tucked in a lot of pots over the winter and have finally dragged them out to see the sun. One was a new catnip that never got planted in the fall: nepeta x mussinii* that will be lucky to stay intact long enough to get planted because the neighborhood cats are going bonkers over it! My yard has always been a cat magnet because of other catnips, water bowls, no dogs, lovely large litterboxes ( Hilarious! ) and I know a lot of them, but this year has brought several newcomers who look like pets, not strays. I wonder if a lot of people got Covid pets last year? Whatever, none of them can resist this poor little pale plant. Lots of rolling, rubbing and chewing

This one, N. faassenii "Select Blue" has been trying to emerge for a couple of months, but it keeps getting squished. The white fuzz is cat fur D'Oh!

*I'm a bit confused about this. From Missouri Botanical Garden site:
"N. mussinii Spreng...is synonymous with N. racemosa, but N. mussinii hort. (plants sold in the horticulture trade) is synonymous with N. x faassenii. ...This plant is sometimes listed and sold by nurseries as Nepeta x mussinii 'Blue Wonder.' " I hate it when they make it so confusing! Confused

One of the ferals. Looks like hell but is actually quite sweet. I think the Crazy Cat Lady around the corner feeds some of these, but doesn't give them any care. Poor thing. I've thought about trapping him and taking him to the animal shelter.

Zoe, he might be put down. PLEASE try the Feral Cat Coalition!! If he bites at a shelter he's dead. Even the sweet ones get scared and can bite.

@Deeby, our local shelter is no-kill. Any cat will bite when scared. I'm working myself up for another chat with the crazy cat lady to find out exactly what she does, ie, daily food? Water? Any shelter? Are they all neutered? etc. I've been watching this one for awhile and believe it needs medical attention. I'm not sure that putting out kibble for strays without taking some responsibility for their well-being is doing them a favor.

Lettuce seed is taking its time, so I dug up several little red lettuces that sprang up in the path from last year's seedfall and parked them in the planter as role models Whistling I think I see dill emerging. Thinned a bunch of arugula, then went to the nursery. Damn it feels good to see things growing! Hurray!

I just found out by research about roses that some type of lavender plants are edible, Thumbelina Leigh is one of them, I can't find the seeds anywhere, I think it's out.

I use lavender in tea blends. If you ever come across lavender ice cream, try some. It has the quality of tasting just like it smells in such a way that you feel like you're smelling through your taste buds. Heavenly Lovey dubby

SoCal, lavender has a reputation for being finicky and slow to start from seed. I've never tried it from seed, but I have grown many varieties over the years...it's a staple in my garden. The Thumbelina Leigh is a dwarf species, I believe. Here's an article about starting seeds.

Thanks Zoe, thanks for the link, I almost was going to buy some live plants today, but I will wait until I have my roses first. I've started some lavender before. The seeds are tiny, so you shouldn't cover them. Here is one I threw on the ground and it came up. The lavender next to my rose is the one I started from scratch.
