It will be interesting to see what they do in the new soil in Oregon City.

Hello,

This thread is full of many nice observations! I got my first 'Gold Nugget' ever in the mail last week(MCG). It has changed its color a bit in that time. Just one rainy night followed by a warm sunny day has starting shifting the plant from "lime green looks like living in the shade" colors to turning yellow hot pink tips. When the plant first arrived, I was not sure it would have the pink tips like in all the lovely highly saturated photos. Looking forward to observing its progression!

Did not think it would adjust color so rapidly.

AnnMarie, what a very nice box of semps you have there. MCG does a great job of growing them. I have been to their facility in Northern California. It is huge. The green house get lots of light and are kept on the cool side. I see some lovely 'Gold Nugget' colors going on in the lower leaves (box photo). They can lose color so quickly in a dark box during shipping, but recover to reward us for all our loving care. Lovey dubby
Make sure it doesn't get to much full sun for the next week, you don't want to burn the leaves. You did a beautiful job of planting it.

Thank you. I been growing them for a long minute but I will take and appreciate any advice to improve my efforts. They are my plant for fun and I try to promote them every year. I was trying to find sempervivum colors to recreate an old echeveria and sedum display I made a few years ago. As for the 'Golden Nugget' I had it under my Austrian Pine for a week in the NW garden. Planted yesterday in the NE garden. Our weather has mostly been cloudy or rainy with lows in the 30's F and highs in the upper 50's F.

This plant is mesmerizing and I am realizing not all photos of it have not been super altered. I planted it so I could see it from the kitchen window. I don't think one is enough. Good thing I saw some tiny stolons.

That is cool you been to MCG. I think the nearest sempervivum grower is the Chick Charms main greenhouse out in Michigan.

How is Gold Nugget in the chick department? Average producer? I got my first rosette of it this spring.

I would say my gold nuggets produce a reasonable amount of offsets. Not a huge amount like Tordeurs Memory, but an ok amount. Each rosette usually produces 6 to 8 at a time.

Jesse I agree with Melissa, it would be considered a medium to low producer of offsets. Mine have produced around 8 offsets per season. Perfect for me.

AnnMarie, it sounds like you have the perfect care routine set up for your new arrivals. Hurray!
Mountain Crest Gardens is a days drive from me. It was a special trip that Bev and I took when Tom and Matts invited us down to see how they grow their semps. It was amazing.

Somebody just pointed this thread out to me. I had just posted something similar on FB. So I thought I'd share my post here too.

The many colors of my 'Gold Nugget' semps. This picture is NOT color enhanced, they are truly these amazing colors! All these containers are within 6 ft. of each other behind my house! The large container is against a south wall and gets full sun and radiant heat from the house siding all day. The one on the left is against an east wall, gets radiant heat, and full sun until about 2:30 PM. The one on the right is away from the house, gets full sun all day, and has been getting lots of cold wind this spring. Same amounts of moisture.

Chris that is a very dramatic difference in coloring. I have been finding the same thing with my 'Gold Nugget', and other semps in my collection that are in two or three different locations.
Really shows the importance of keeping them with name tags.
All of them are beautiful.

'Gold Nugget' in mid May. It has toned down a bit but still an eyeful. I would consider it a tri-color at this point.

Beautiful Tim, absolutely beautiful.
I find it interesting the color variation according to age of rosette and which side of the colony is receiving the most sun/shade.

I decided to take a couple of shots of my Gold Nuggets. They look much better in the winter.

This one is actually two separate plants. The small ones on the right, including the more yellow one are from a different source than the bigger, greener one.

Wow, very nice Melissa. Both photos show big healthy plants. But, that first one wins the color category. Thumbs up

I agree Lynn. The first one was my first one. I got it at In The Country Garden online and it always seems to have more color than the other two.

The two that are together, the big one on the left came from Tim and the smaller one on the right came from a local plant sale. I planted the two together so they would make a nice big colony I could take to fair this year. My first one is in a HUGE pot and can't be easily moved. Needless to say there is no fair this year.

What a bummer about the fair Melissa. I know you have been planning ahead for a year for this showing.

My 'gold nugget' is still really yellow. Does anyone else still have a lot of yellow in theirs?
Thumb of 2020-06-25/ndmpkt13/762d12

It's in my front yard which tends to get some pretty strong sun all day. I do tend to water a couple times a week in the morning. I've had it for a few months now but it's always been this yellow since I got it. The soil is just pointing soil, pea rock, and perlite mostly with a little sand mixed in. My main thing is I wonder if it is getting too much fun. The front yard is southern facing.

Wow, Nathaniel that is quite the bright light in the garden. I have had some of mine that had that coloring in the past. So pretty, and what a standout.

I'm just surprised it's still this yellow. I figured it would be mostly green by now.

Nathaniel can you go back and edit the photo post of your 'Gold Nugget' and add information on growing conditions? Time of year, soil conditions, watering method, how long have you had it. What ever you think of adding that will give us a reference to what might contribute to this coloring.
