Allium 'Ambassador'

Intense color. Especially valuable for cutting, but its border use is somewhat limited by the large size of the foliage.
Removed because I prefer 'Globemaster'.

Allium 'Globus'

Quite long blooming.
Showed suspicious leaf pattern in foliage and as some of the bulbs subsequently rotted during summer storage I decided to discard everything. 'Globemaster' remains a lot better option.

Photographed after sunset, which is somewhat reflected in the col

Foliage remains green even longer than on A. karataviense.
Very interesting color.
Extremely fast reproduction through tiny daughter bulbs.
Could easily get out of control!

Allium 'Summer Drummer'

Foliage emerges already in the autumn and is surprisingly winter hardy. Flower heads are rather muted in color and not very showy. Here it is not deer resistant during winter.

Allium altissimum

Used to have the 'Samson' selection. Very large foliage and flower heads no larger than the common 'Purple Sensation'. Mine never became as tall as they are supposed to be. Discarded.

Giant Onion (Allium giganteum)

Prev
The gray foliage takes up considerable space, but is actually decorative, which is uncommon for giant Alliums.
Easy multiplication. Probably prefers a dry summer dormancy.
Harder to maintain than Globemaster in my garden, so it was removed. Lovely choice in the correct climate.

Giant Allium (Allium giganteum 'Globemaster')

Very long bloom and very large flowering heads. The foliage takes up little space, so is probably the best giant Allium for the border.
Needs frequent division to keep up the size of the bulbs and flower heads, it however still blooms from smaller bulbs.

Turkestan Onion (Allium karataviense)

Slow multiplication. Both bulb size and foliage size increases dramatically with ample fertilization in spring.

Turkestan Onion (Allium karataviense 'Ivory Queen')

Seems to multiply much faster than the species.

I have not noticed any increase on this one. Needs to be started from seed.
