If I snap pictures for my documentation (not necessarily for beauty), sometimes I will take multiple pics of the same flower from the same perspective, but at different focal lengths. Some focus on the petals, and others on the closer stigma and anthers.
When the camera doesn't focus the way I want (because I use a simple point and shoot camera, too), sometimes I will use and a beige colored paper to focus on first:
1) Hold the paper near the photo subject at the distance you want focused.
2) Depress and hold the camera's button halfway to focus. (Do not snap the picture,yet.)
3) Remove the paper, and point the camera as desired, making sure not to change the distance from the camera to the subject.
4) Finish depressing the button to snap the photo.
You may find that the brightness is somewhat off, one way or the other. You can use darker or lighter color paper to compensate, or change the esposure (brightness) level in the camera. Anthony, this is how you can do it:
