It seems there are many kinds of Nematodes, some eat bacteria, some plant matter, and some feed on animal matter such as fly larvae or I assume the baby borers. So I guess one needs to be careful that you don't get the wrong kind. I don't think that they would starve waiting just for the iris borers. Here's an interesting article if you're interested.
