A great free program I've been using for 2 decades is Stellarium. Just set your location and time and it will show you exactly what you see in the sky so you can ID any star or planet. You can go back or forward in time to see what will be visible on any date you want. It's open source, is available for Windows, Linux, Macs, apps for Android and Iphones and tablets, or you can even just load the view in your browser. Zero ads, no tracking, no accounts to sign up for, no notifications bombing your phone and email, just the information at your fingertips only when you want it. Never again wonder what that bright spot is that you noticed with this app.
