Cal: My eyes are planted only an inch or two from the surface. Your area is drier and hotter. I guess you would want the eyes at least slightly covered to keep them from scorching?
@SoCalGardenNut - do you have any problems with this? Do you keep yours well watered? We had record rains last year and into the winter and they bloomed better than ever this year, so I am wondering if I wasn't giving them quite enough water before.
