Yes, it's a thorny bush. I've gotten them embedded in my skin too, Cal. They are wicked and now I also have rose gloves that are long and can handle the thorns. This was taken at my home here in NM. I also grew them in Arizona. They grow like weeds so it's a never ending job to keep them in shape. I have one here that I'm letting go wild and want to see how it ends up!
