I use Manutec's Soil pH test kit

It is simple to use.
1. grab a small sample of dirt
2. put it on the supplied plastic plate
3. add the supplied liquid to mix in with the soil to make a paste
4. sprinkle it with the supplied powder.
5. compare the colour to the chart

The colours on the chart are close to the colours of the soil at the end of the test.

I only sprinkle the centre part of the soil with powder to get more tests out of the bottle.

Everything is supplied and no water is required, so you don't have to worry about the pH of the water affecting the result.
