We'll never know for certain who did the layout for this ad, or why it's so wonky, but I think we can be sure that compositing back in 1938 for such layouts was much harder than it is now. One intriguing detail, for me, is the way parts of some of the flowers were allowed to extend beyond their image frames, but not others. Another head scratcher.
