I think it's regional or actually local in so far as what the birds in your area like or love.
I've tried different suets. I wasted my money on everything but the Tractor Supply no melt. It holds up to FL summers. No dripping, drooling, melting, greasy messes. I get all the different varieties of it - I have 4 suet feeders & put a different variety in each so they can pick & choose. They don't seem to favor one over another.
