I just posted in another thread about the Mushroom Basket tomato seeds just received from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. They sent a ton of seeds (maybe 75 when you pay for 25).
A friend got these somewhere last year and shared some plants with me. We both are enthused about growing them again this year. It's the prettiest tomato plant I've ever seen, the tomatoes are beautiful on a platter when sliced and the flavor is excellent. I can't say it's a high yield but for slicing and eating fresh it was enough for both of our small families.
Another I tracked down and will grow again is Opalka, the heirloom giant paste tomato. Again, yields are not great nor is disease resistance. They are good tasting for eating fresh and superb for making sauce or paste as they have thick, meaty walls of flesh.
Also last year, someone gave me a plant of Garden Treasure since they were gifted with more than they needed. It's an experimental variety from University of Florida, not available commercially but you can donate $10 to the program and get 3 different experimental varieties. The Garden Treasure was okay and did hold out against disease a bit longer than others. I may try a plant one more time along with a plant of each of the other three. Here's a link if you want to read about these.
