In my experience the main issue is getting the bit to bite, which initially caused me to put a lot of pressure on everything, but then I found that the best way to get the bite, is to spin the drill up to relatively high speed before making contact with the pot, then the moment you feel the bit bite, reduce speed and let the coring bit do all the work, with as hlutzow mentions little to no pressure required.
It is what it is!
