We live in a shady canyon in Zone 10 in southern California. The property where we live is built into a hillside and our sun exposure is... hard to pin down/explain. On top of that, it gets rather windy from time to time (25-50mph gusts) and we have poor soil (read: rocky canyon) that grows jade and fruit trees and aloe and bamboo well, but not much else. And we have mule deer that like to eat everything that flowers (or so it seems). Therefore, in order to keep everyone happy, everything is being grown in containers.

I was excited to add a hanging fuschia to our deck, but in my haste, purchased a hardy fuchsia instead of a trailing fuchsia. I'm now trying to keep that as happy as I can. I hung it in a shady spot that received a bit of early morning sun and a bit of late afternoon sun. It received a good bit of wind as well. I water it three times a week; one of those waterings with Neptune's Harvest Fish & Seaweed 2-3-1 fertilizer. In an act of desperation when the leaves started turning, I added a tablespoon of Osmocote flower & veg (14-14-14) slow release pellets.

And here's where we're at today:

The more I learn about hardy fuchsias, the more I think that a much larger container will be necessary and hanging may not be an option. I still can't figure out where to put it. My options are:

An area that gets full morning sun until 11:30-12:00.
An area that gets no direct sun all day.
An area that gets no morning sun, but filtered/shaded afternoon sun.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
