In the meanwhile - I have been playing around making a face mask and writing down my notes for those interested in making them yourself. Now I know they are not the N95s, but I find it impossible to get my hands even on the cheaper version. And I would think we will wear masks for some time!
My design has a frame at the back to hold folded Filter material.
I chose a strong Cotton yarn, Cascade Ultra Pima, used with hook size 2 - 2.75 mm. (Yellow and pink mask) It can be washed in hot soapy water in the sink.

and including some other early attempts, one can modify the pattern for smaller children's faces.
