Have you had any rain? Down here we have had barely a drop in many weeks, and low humidity too. Dry soil will really suck away the water .
Those multiple trunks do seem buried and appearing seperate where in fact they come from one trunk and the place where the multiple emerge should be above ground and out of the mulch.
Plant it and they will come.
