Daphne: give it a go. It's easier than you think and fun just to play around making a few crosses.


Back in November 2018, I noted that I had a promising pod from this cross:
Australis said: X = Thumb of 2018-11-16/Australis/001c68

The inverse cross didn't take. I think I'll be trying a few more early-flowering crosses with 'Saffron Drift', as I was impressed with how well it stood up to the weather (just about everything else ended up with a lean or blown over).


Well, in early January the pod cracked and I harvested it. There were 32 seeds inside:

Thumb of 2019-03-26/Australis/ec5021

Based on Robin's experience with direct planting (rather than drying then soaking the seeds), I decided to try planting the seeds out straight away (since I can always repeat the cross if the experiment failed). After about 10 weeks, the first couple of seedlings appeared; now there are five:

It will be interesting to see if more come up in Spring.
