As you can see, there are too many similar burgundies. I need to find the best blooms, branching and overall hardiness.

Rocket Red - Cracklin Burgundy

Red Hawk - Rio Rojo

Red Polish - Lest We Forget
(No picture in the database for Red Polish)

Samurai Warrior - Walkara

Chief Waukesha - Ready For My Closeup

Plum Pretty Whiskers - Good Morning Beautiful

Broken Record - Die Laughing

Paris Memory - I Must Have It

Temporal Anomaly - Optic Overload

Rosette Wine - Fine Drop

Master at Arms - Grape Expectations

Gypsy Romance - Cantina

Batman - Silent Majesty

Orbiter - Titan's Glory

Hollywood Nights - Ozark Rebounder

Putting this list together was not what I originally planned. It sort of took on a "life of its own" in line with my thinking about comparing similars and choosing the best stock. Truth be told, I did not realize that I had so many reds and purples. Still, if they all bloom at once it might look nice, but that is a chance I will take as some are early or late, and some are big, and others have small rhizomes, so they may take a year or two.

I only planted a couple on Sunday, of what I would finish the bed. My shoulder was hurting so much, and I had run out of (enteric-coated) aspirin, so I had to take the time to go to town. That, of course, took a big chunk out of my day. I usually am well-stocked up on supplies since we live so far from town. I usually get it at Costco when we go to Folsom, and we went this week! D'Oh!

Today I finally finished the bed, planting the remaining 14. I have to replace one that was too small, but I can do that easily in the morning, and then finish the cleanup. I am so tired, but happy these beds are done.

I have more to do as I am cleaning out the raised beds and re-planting them. I still have a few in there, but quite a few pots under the oak tree remain. However, a lot less. Some irises I will plant in the perennial beds. The IBs and the SDBs need planting out as well. I had Midnight and Cat's Eye in large pots and they took off like crazy. I will put them into the Dark Side Garden. I wasn't planning on keeping them, but we'll see how they work out. They both are vigorous irises. I shared parts of both of them, and they do not look any worse for wear at all. I Just put my spade in and cut them right out. (Monty, how are they doing?) Now to get them out of the pots! They have massive roots!
