Minnesota Midget is a miniature cantaloupe that produces a 3" or so single size melon that is sweet and tasteful. This is accomplished many days before it's big brothers have mature produce. That variety has been around a long time. Pursuing a near by catalog I see a modern day variety Lil Loupe produces 2 lb fruit. I thought I'd have some this past year but the seed (Gurney's) produced regular sized melons.
I used to grow them through a chain link fence, Growing up they occupied very little space.
Nothing that's been done can ever be changed.
