In Situ: "In it's natural, original or appropriate position", as a plant found growing in it's natural habitat.

For outdoor planting, be sure you plant in an appropriate area, with conditions as close to the particular plants natural habitat as possible. For instance, if it's a plant that normally grows in shade, give it a bright shady location with no direct sunlight which will burn the foliage. If it's a plant whose native habitat is a rain forest, it will require high humidity. If it's a sun loving plant, do not plant it in a shady location where it will not receive enough sunlight to thrive.

For indoor plants, it's sometimes a bit trickier to maintain the correct lighting situation needed for plants to thrive. Some plants do very well in lower light situations but still need some amount of light to thrive and those that require full sun will need to be close to a window where they can receive as much sunlight as possible for as many hours as possible.

Besides correct lighting, proper watering and sufficient air circulation are two very important things required of indoor plants for them to thrive and survive. It helps to move plants outdoors to a bright but shady location during the warmer months of the year.
