I was doing some research for my edible evergreen garden and found that Ceanothus Velutinus is a butterfly magnet http://derbycanyonnatives.com/...
It's a west coast native, so I'm not sure if East coast butterflies would be attracted to it. If not, it's still an amazing shrub. Grows 3-8' tall and wide, fixes nitrogen, very drought tolerant, has fragrant evergreen leaves, and fragrant cream lilac-like flowers. The flowers and leaves are used to make a pleasant, aromatic tea.
