My favorite open pollinated is Country Gentlemen, followed by Silver Queen and some old standard hybrid yellows.
Do a search on vintage hybrids and you will see which ones have been around for a long time and are now reappearing after being almost gone.
The best hybrid I like with my brother agreeing is Precocious but that is getting hard to find.
It is a earlier type that is sweet but still tastes like corn not the sweet tastelessness of the new super hybrids.
With older types I almost always put sugar, a lot, in the water when I boil them.
It is more a habit than a necessity although real old types like Truckers Favorite are really sweet field corn that should have sugar added.
R.H. Shumway is the best well known garden catalog for a selection of old school corn.
I have grown all their op types with success.
Sandhill Preservation is best for a large variety of corn period, including some you find nowhere else but they have quit their printed catalog except by special request.
