It always amazes me how it re-seeds......you would think there would be a lawn of plants,
but I find only 5~10 new ones per year.....more than enough to fill a small flower bed.
And they are so spindly........I leave them alone, and only transplant if they are in a
bad spot. No problems with snails, slugs, mildew, rust. Maybe some mealy bugs, but
easy to treat.
Eventually, they have a
2 inch trunk & a humongous bouquet, and fern-like foliage.
They do need a sturdy stake the 2nd year as the base is "only" 1 inch thick, and they can break under their own weight.
But they may also be propped up by the sturdy stems of their lower leaves as well.
