I had way too many cucumbers this year, and made all the pickles I could, gave away all I could... I didn't have anything to do with anymore in late July, and didn't want them going to waste, so I cut my plants off at the ground. The roots pulled up water for almost two weeks even when we had a lot of really dry days. I thought if I ever did anything like that again, that might be a good place to plant something else, and the seeds would have plenty of time to sprout before the water stopped. Not that I plan on cutting down good plants anymore, but it's nice to know it works that way, and maybe somebody can get a helpful idea from that.
