Letters to the Editor

By Sharon
November 24, 2011

A successful site is made by the interest and the strength of its members. From time to time I receive from our members letters that are worthy of sharing. Today's letter is from Brenda Savage and on this Thanksgiving Day I'd like to share it with you.

Dear Brenda, although I live many thousands of miles away of you it has always been a pleasure to know you and that letter is a real tribute. Your husband is British and fought in the same war I did, his skills and many other pilots who gave us air cover saved many lives on the ground and for that we are eternally grateful.
Dave and Trish are real stars and we all know that, and Sharon as my Editor is to! The work they all have to do must be immense, but I think they know what we feel about them.
Regards to you both from a cold England.
Neil.

Beautifully written! Brenda, your sleepless night has produced a wonderful tribute to Dave and Trish, and said what is in our hearts. Thank you.

I also want to thank Sharon, who works editing ATP articles, tending our writings like a garden, weeding out our misspellings and grammatical errors, arranging photos and words, and presenting the finished products in such a timely manner.

Many years ago, when I joined DG along with many others who were looking for a friendly gardening site, we learned what generous people Dave and Trish are. They provided the site for thousands of us and wouldn't hear of accepting money to help run the site. Eventually it became necessary to have paid subscribers, but for about a nickel a day, I was happy to be helping. And then the Big Bad Wolf came, and it all changed.

We felt so lost, and knew that Dave and Trish were struggling. Dave opened Cubits and many of us landed there. And while we all waited for the dust to settle, Dave and Trish worked quietly on this brand new site. When it opened, I saw again the process of members suggesting features, and Dave tweaking and expanding the site, often within minutes or hours of the request! While I am pretty much computer illiterate, I recognize the uniqueness of this. It's Dave and Trish's site, but it's ours too. Thank you!
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

How wonderful to read of the History that lies behind this wonderful Website.

Many years ago, I had come across the Dave's Garden Website and browsed the Daylily pages. Loved all the photos, and tried to enter my own, but they were never accepted, because I had a Postal Code, being in Canada, instead of a Zip Code, which was required.

Then I discovered All Things Plants, and found the Daylily Database so useful in reaffirming some of my Daylily varieties from which the Crows had had a field day several times, yanking the labels out, and flying off with them!!!
And when I would peruse the Canadian Daylily sites, before I would order, I would study the many photos available, to find the colours I wanted to have.

Then, in 2016, I discovered that I could join the crowd, and interact and display photos in the Database. Wow! My world opened up. And when the Website changed over to The National Gardening Association, things kept getting better and better - - - and the family grows and grows, the world over. I love it.

Thank you Dave and Trish and family and Moderators and other enablers and friends - - - Thumbs up this is the most amazing site, and my friend forever. Group hug
