The base of the Silver Maple is just visible in the upper right of the photo. The tree is very mature with a high canopy, estimated to be around 50 years old. I can still get these tough little plants to survive tucking small plugs in amongst the tree roots and mulching well. I don't water any of them once established. The lady ferns will never get big here, but at least they survive. The unknown species of hosta is tough as nails and near impossible to kill. Photo taken in mid May. In the summer things look a bit rougher, but still green.
