What are they? The brighter red one looks like a salvia splendens (variety please) and what kind of plant and variety is the other?

How many plants of each variety is in this pic?

The pic (expanded below) was taken while walking the dog (Plato) and is a block and a half from my house. I don't know who lives there but admire their front yard plants. I figured the salvia was all the same. When walking by there the next time I'll try for better pics.

I thought they were plants you were growing.

One of red varieties looks to be a bit taller than the other, so I don't think they're the same variety.

My first thought was the taller ones might be Cardinal Flower (Lobelia cardinalis)
