Nessie at Lilacia Park

They've added a bit of the whimsical at Lilacia Park in Lombard, IL with a flowering Nessie in the small pool at the entrance.

Yes, all the plants were real that were growing on it. Most of them were types of succulents, not sure what the pink flowers are... maybe vincas? Sadly it was gone this May when I made the usual trip for the lilacs in bloom. Last year, 2022, was the only year they put it in the small pool. I wish they kept it, I liked it.

Here's a closeup of the center hump to see the individual plants hopefully a bit clearer:

So cool. I just love the idea of it, and it makes a fantastic banner. It made me think back to a year when the annual indoor Christmas display at the conservatory at Matthaei Botanical Gardens featured 'living garments' - gowns and tuxes, etc. - made from similar materials. I tried to find some of my photos of them to share. They, like your display, were a 'one off', and never reappeared, alas. It's so much fun to see what creative people can do with plants.

arctangent Oh yes of course I remember. Couple of areas in my neck of the woods have done the same thing. So beautiful… plants aren't just for gardens or pot displays … also great for fashion… :hurray:

I love those fashion "planters" as well, Elizabeth! Especially the one with the ferns. Chicago Botanic Garden has some in the shape of a few animals inside the greenhouses, but nothing as fancy as that. I wish they'd display more of the fun side of the possibilities that can be done with plants.
