A picture of some of the impatiens I started today. I'm hoping they grow well in these soil blocks. I like to use soil blocks for my petunias. I covered the trays with Press N Seal plastic wrap after I took the picture.

DraDiana said: I planted 10 of my Orange Hat micro tomato seeds and got 100% germination in 4 days.

I'm looking forward to cherry tomatoes before the ground even thaws. Sticking tongue out
(The others are Jochalos Yellow - 90% germination in 5 days from my self collected seeds.)

For next year, I'm eyeing more varieties of micro tomatoes!

I was thinking about ordering some orange hat tomato seeds. Have you tasted any of the fruit yet? The reviews seem to be mixed so I thought I'd ask your opinion.

Here's my first picking (minus one for a "taste test") of the 9 Jochalos Yellow that I seeded just before Thanksgiving.

Orange Hat was planted 3 or 4 weeks later... Sticking tongue out
So, I cannot answer your question just yet.
I have 12 more varieties coming along that I planted in early January. I plan to collect and offer seed from all of them in the Fall Swaps. This late in the year, you could likely start some fast maturing regular tomatoes (eg. Early Girl) in a window sill or under lights, put them outside by late April, and have tomatoes by early May. I'm planning to start some myself this week. If you really want to start micro dwarf tomatoes this Spring, Heritage Seed Market, and/or Victory Seeds may still have some varieties left. Heritage Seed is where I got my latest 12 varieties. They were already selling out of some varieties by early January, though.

@DraDiana Baker's Creek has orange hat seeds that I can order. I'd like to grow them for my plant sale for customers who want to grow tomatoes on a patio or deck. I thought they would be cute in a little pot. I just wasn't sure of the actual flavor but I'll give them a shot. Would someone be able to grow them on a sunny windowsill in the summer or would they need more light? Thanks!

I figured you were looking a Baker Creek. That's the only variety they offer. I got mine there, and 11 of 11 seeds germinated. I put the rest in a couple of swaps. They will do fine on a south facing window sill - maybe even southeast or southwest during the spring/summer months. The window sill should be big enough for a 6" pot. 4" pots are good enough for the first couple of months, but 6 inch or one gallon is optimal. They would make a darling patio/deck plants, too.
Here they are in one gallon pots - anticipation!
