Regarding the plant "Dahlias (Dahlia)" in @dnrevel's plant list

dnrevel said:Planted Collarettes and Pompon Dahlia seeds from Happy Green Shop in Ireland. Almost all germinated! Good germination rate. Started with Dixie Cups. Transplanted to Red Solo cups. Raised in the little greenhouse and did fine in the spring.

Pictured yellow flower collarette is from seedling that made 4 tubers and worked well as a low growing landscape dahlia. May blend well with City Lights in 2024.

February 2023: Using heat mats, and will move any plants to heated greenhouse in March, 6a Michigan. I have fresh seeds from Happy Green Shop from Ireland location and some specific ones coming from a grower in the UK.

March 3, 2022: Seeds sown (WS in jug. WS in jug - PS: NOT a good idea, as they need heat mats to sprout. Ark of Taste says: "Seeds are sown from February to July and transplanted after 3 weeks, full sun. When the plants reach a height of 30 cm, soil should be added to the base of the plants to encourage the development of tuberous roots. After about twelve weeks, dahlias will bloom for 4-6 weeks."

From TrueLove Seeds: When warm, germination should take 7-12 days. When the starts are about an inch tall, pot them up into 3" pots. Transplant them in the garden when they have filled in their pots and after the last danger of frost. Space plants in garden by 18-24". Trellis or stake as the plant grows tall. )

May 27, 2022: Plant Ended (Removed, Died, Discarded, etc) (Winter Sowing dahlias did not sprout from seed.)

Ark of Taste says that both the tuberous roots and flowers can be used as foods. Dahlia tubers may be eaten either raw or cooked. To cook with tubers, they should be boiled and their skin removed. They may then be used in any recipe like other tubers (such as potatoes or sweet potatoes).
