For the record, it was taken in early November a few years back. They hadn't all ripened fully by that point (some still yellow, and the leaves still hanging on).
@Murky wrote about her crabapples not lasting long before the birds consumed them, but my own experience has been a little different. I've known whole trees full of them to persist well into the winter months. I can think of a couple of explanations for the difference, but it would be mere speculation.
