Chashitsu in the garden

This structure, designed specifically for performance of the Japanese tea ceremony, sits on a small peninsula that juts into the lake, which is the central feature of the Japanese Garden at Meijer Gardens. Such structures are called Chashitsu.

Here is the source photo, which gives a better idea of the setting for the Chashitsu, or Tea House. It is only open to the public one Sunday afternoon per month for part of the year, and then only by reservation. I haven't been lucky enough to go inside it yet.

Beautiful! The Duke gardens have a Chashitsu too and I haven't had much luck getting into that one either! I need to visit the Meijer gardens next time I am up in MI.
