If there was not a botanical name, I would not go all the way to saying mislabeled since nicknames can be shared and it could be just what they said - wild Petunias, indicating a species that can survive outside of cultivation. There are wild petunias here that show up in early spring with pale pink and white blooms. I like them better than the cultivar plants @ stores. Not sure what species they are. When I tried to investigate a few years ago, I just got more confused.
Since yours is blooming in Oct, I don't think yours is the same as the spring ones here because they disappear as soon as it starts to get warm.
