Ick factor. Alternatively, picky eaters

On the day I took this photo, I saw these red aphids on virtually every plant of this type (woodland sunflower, Helianthus divaricatus), but on no other wildflower in that area of open woodland.

What a stunning moment you caught. You could almost mistake them for being part of the plant. Excellent banner.

This one made me laugh, but it does tell the story of how insects are so selective.

Huge thanks to everyone who took the time to express their reactions to this admittedly offbeat banner image. I'm glad some of you found it weird, fun, intriguing, educational, and so on. Crawling and flying invertebrates are an inseparable part of the lives of plants. Endlessly fascinating, as well as sometimes beneficial, and sometimes detrimental.
