I got a 4 inch pot hibiscus. I'm going crazy looking for a beautiful pot. Everything looks horrific. I want to keep it inside.

I had a 6 inch pot lying around. I transferred it bc the store bought plastic pot looked overcrowded. I figured 2 inches around it would give it room to breathe.

Is this okay? Or do I absolutely have to put it in a 10 inch pot right away? I don't want it to die. Ten inch pots are massive and the really pretty ones are expensive and not on sale, like over $100 for a simple pot.

Hardy or tropical hibiscus?
Tropicals are better grown in smaller containers and moved up one size at the beginning of the next season if the rootball filled the whole container. Couple this with a low or no nitrogen liquid fertilizer and you will get spectacular blooming.

Hardy hibiscus need large to very large containers because, well, they are fast-growing large plants. Especially during the hottest Summer months the rootball will grow like crazy while the plants blooms like crazy. Some cultivars like the Suniq series can be container-grown, but they are better planted in the ground.

Hi El Pollo Diablo,

It is a Tropical hibiscus. I asked the shop I bought it from and they said to move it to a pot that is two inches bigger, which I did.

Thank you for your reply. I had no idea there was a difference between a tropical versus hardy hibiscus and I wouldn't have asked the shop. So, I am glad that I have this information now thanks to your reply.

I appreciate your time in replying.
