Umbelliferous

Cow-parsnip (Heracleum maximum) belongs to the plant family Umbelliferae, the parsley family. In this plant, umbellets combine to form a compound umbel. I checked the spelling of 'umbelliferous'. Two ll's is correct.

I hope the full size source images give a better idea of what I mean by compound umbels. Basically a big 'spray' made up of little 'sprays'.

I'm not sure it's a legitimate word. I might have made it up. But, heck, that's how most of our 'legitimate' words get their starts.

Live and learn.....at first glance I thought it was blossoming Garlic Chives, but I learned a new word and of a new plant. Thanks to you.

I learned something, too, today. I checked the database for this plant and found it has been reclassified to Common Cow-Parsnip (Heracleum sphondylium subsp. montanum). Maybe I'll add my source images to that database page, if I run out of other things to do tomorrow 😉😉
