I am fascinated with pawpaws. When I was in grad school I worked in archives and special collections and one big collection I worked on was a man originally from Virginia who moved out to Washington to work with the Yakima indians. He used to have family back home send him boxes of pawpaws. They must be a fruit that lasts well because in the 1800's those pawpaws had to go by train and wagon! Have never had a chance to try one.

The only time I ever heard of Paw Paws was in the song Bear Necessities from Jungle Book. They are very cool looking!

Paw paws do have an edible fruit. The seed is poisonous, though, so it is best to separate the seed from the fruit before storing for any length of time. I like paw paws trees mainly because they are the only host plant for the zebra swallowtail butterfly.

Thank you, all, for your likes and comments on the pawpaw banner. Here are a couple of images of the opened flowers. I guess I don't have a picture of the fruit.

My grandparents lived on farms in Indiana when I was a child. They had Paw Paws growing on their farms, and they gave me the fruit whenever I visited them. I loved them! They are something I haven't thought of since then, so it was nice to see your banner.
