Thanks to all who 'liked' or even took the time to look closely at this banner, and special thanks to @Fleur569 and @lauriemorningglory for the added acorns.

Although sunken gardens are typically created as a way to keep roots of plants cooler and wetter than allowed at ground level, any viewer of such a garden, seeing it from above, must realize that they also provide viewing perspectives that are well suited to formal designs. The patterns in this garden really stood out when viewed from above. Here's my source photo.

That…is…so…COOL! I just love geometric gardens…the intense amount of planning and control is just amazing to me. My gardens certainly don't look like that! Hilarious!

@Zoia
You are so right about the amount of planning, but I'm guessing that the staff at Cranbrook House have fun doing just that. It's a change of pace from their usual work, and I expect it's a thrill when they see the final product and know that hundreds of visitors will appreciate all their hard work. Such a venture really only makes sense for public gardens, I think.

Long ago, I spent a summer going to school at a festival held in Fontainebleau, the beautiful palace of French kings, 45 minutes out of Paris. The formal gardens were amazing, but the view from the palace windows was where you could really see the designs. There were even urban legends that some of the carp in the lakes were so old that they still had gold rings in their noses from their royal fish days.

I don't relate to the grassy strips, (and wonder how the mower gets to them...?) but otherwise, this garden is a perfect sight! TY for taking the time to make a great banner of it!
