"The Myriad Botanical Gardens is a 17-acre botanical garden and interactive urban park located in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma." [Wikipedia]
In one corner of this "urban park" boulders and berms and water have been combined to create a both shady and sunny stroll garden with plenty of places to spread a blanket and have a picnic. Bald cypress, redbuds, crabapples and impressively large viburnums provide shade and a plethora of shrubs and perennials offer flowering and evergreen displays.
It should be noted that the species purple loosestrife is considered by many to be a noxious weed that cannot be grown, bought or sold in many states. The Missouri Botanical Garden's database entry for this plant also notes, "A number of cultivars, such as the popular 'Morden's Pink' have been marketed over the years as sterile plants, but there is evidence that some of these cultivars may interbreed." If you can buy and grow it in your area... make sure you buy a cultivar.
