I meant to try that this year. Didn't. I regret it.

Did you graft them your self or buy them grafted?

I was at one of the good local nurseries today and asked the owner if he would be handling grafted tomatoes next year. He said he thought they were loosing popularity and no grower that he deals with offered them this year.......

Well, that's certainly interesting... last year was the first time I had heard of them and now they're practically obsolete? Rolling my eyes.

Up here Home Depot had/has them.
I cannot see the gain, if any, is worth the extra price, but some of you should spend your money so I can find out. Whistling
Plants with a lot of foliage does not mean a better tomato.
If that bush one were mine, it would look like the other after I removed foliage for air circulation.

I put them in the same category as the tomatoes and potatoes from one plant.

I always plant my tomatoes deep.

If I find some next spring I may give a couple a try. I'll take a picture of my neighbors grafted Brandywine as it ripens. It is full of developing green fruit right now. I don't trim foliage here......low humidity so not many problems.....

I guess I might try a couple of grafted next year to see if I feel there is any difference. I like to experiment and over the years have spent a small fortune on my garden.

Logic suggests grafted heirlooms should grow better. Next year I am going to try a few.

I bought and grew professional grafting rootstocks this year. My heirloom seedlings are the right size for the large grafting clips. I know to cut the rootstocks and heirlooms tips at a 45 degree angle and have a humidity dome set up with a wet towel on the bottom and have a cover to set them in the humid dark for 24-48 hours as recommended. And will mist the seedlings several times a day with distilled water. Then give them increasing light for a week.

If that doesn't work, I may just buy some next year. I am determined to see if grafted heirloom tomatoes produce better!

I found one mighty mato plant last year at half price. They grow and produce more ripe tomato than my husband and I can eat. This single plant contenue to grow and keep producing fruits till late November. I am going to plant more of them this year.

Too much work for me. Sounds like a fun hobby to see what works best and what results; I don't have enough interest to begin a grafting program.

I agree, Paul -- it's a little surprising to me that I don't want to try grafting, though, since I seem to make all of my gardening projects about twice as much work as they should need to be! Hilarious!

I have plenty of tomatoes planted. They are growing nicely and I even see a few small tomatoes but today I bought a Minghty- mato Sun Sugar as an experiment. The nursery also had grafted San Marzano, Brandy Wine, Early Girl, Big Beef, and others, I'll see how it does......now I'll go out side outside and plant it. My Granddaughter is mopping my kitchen floor and then we are going to lunch.

I would definitely try grafting (or buying grafted tomatoes) if they would grow (or at least survive) in temps below freezing ...

Sorry I missed your question. They are Territorial Seeds TM870/S Supernatural® Tomato - Supernatural Tomato Seeds $11.95

Sadly, in the press of other work, I stupidly kept putting off doing the grafting. I'm still going to do it, but mostly to see if I can get the graft to work. My 2 previous tries (2015 and 2016) failed. And if they do work, I have a spot for 3 more tomatoes.

The rootstock packet had 20 seeds and I planted 10, so I can also try it again next year when the seedlings are smaller.

I'm not really suited to something as delicate as home-grafting (I have hand tremors due to DDT exposure as a teenager). And the only commercially-grafted tomatoes I find come in single-variety packs of a dozen or so each which are far more than I can use.
