For the curious, a sister seedling here (which is a hybrid and not the true species) ... same age, much bigger, quite different. Smiling

Chalk rose is pretty! Is the color due to heavy amounts of wax?

Lots of powder and wax, yes. If you rub off the coating, the leaves are light green underneath.

Our native Dudleya brittonii comes in both green (no powder) and white (powder-dusted) forms:

I enjoy the patterns formed by Nature. No better designer than her.
Beautifully cropped, making this a striking banner.

Thanks for the kind words, folks. I see this the same way you do, Fleur. It is the sculptural aspect, the symmetry, the delicacy that draws me in.

Word to the wise: Dudleyas are generally unavailable outside the Californias, where they are native. They are winter growers, and require strong light during winter. They rest in summer and do not enjoy regular precipitation during their sleepy time. This might be a plant to appreciate from a distance if you don't live in a climate as forgiving as ours. Smiling

Thank You! for the heads up! Like I bought huge gorgeous red and variegated aeoniums from HD a few years ago. Probably my most expensive succulents back then. And then they died on me. Crying

So now, I just admire them from a distance.

Yep. Plants to admire when visiting California….of which there are many!
