Welcome!

It could be normal fall leaf drop but without knowing where the tree lives: Inside or out? Montana or Florida? What exposure?

The branches look fine.

Best to plant maple tree outside before ground freezes, for the tree to grow a stable root system for next spring. Maples are better growing outside and need cold weather and winter break. Not sure if this is a dwarf maple or seedling?
Tree needs drainage soil to soggy will rot roots.cooler weather plant needs less water.
See pic of Japanese maple dwarf and standard.
