Dodging Raindrops - fly on peony petals

My notes indicate there had been heavy rain overnight. Blooms were drooping over from the weight of the raindrops. I don't know the identity of the fly, but I see its type often among the peony blooms (Heirloom peony Pasteur)

Excellent image! This appears to be a hover fly, aka flower fly, aka syrphid fly. The immature stage eats aphids, so are good to see in the garden. I find them around my peonies, too.
