I plant so much seed, put out so many seedlings,
e.g. hollyhocks, rudbeckias, zinnies, sunflowers, cleome,
marigolds, cosmos & more.
I stress over them as they run the gauntlet of snails, slugs,
drought, blazing heat, gophers, birds, & squirrels.
Some do manage to make it through, but more often than not,
I find volunteers in the lawn or in a pot that I can at least transplant to
where I intended them to grow.
Enter the lotus.
Soooo easy to grow.....just a tub of water & a few inches of
garden soil. There are small varieties that grow in just a bowl.
Just plant'em & leave'em.
But don't touch until they are well rooted & are putting out aerial leaves.
They will reward you with >=12" stately leaves & voluptuous blooms with
relatively little care, even in Denmark.
The best source I've found is
10 Mile Creek Nursery. Great selection.
All sold out now, but new stock ready Oct 1.
Hope you will give them a try.
